Meteorological Towers Installed at LCWF

7 Meteorological (MET) Towers were installed at the Just Wind Logan County Wind Farm in Napoleon, North Dakota. Data equipment was also reinstalled on a lattice tower north of Napoleon where the Economic Development group originally collected wind data for a total of 8 data collection sites. This original data is what attracted founder Jeff Metzger to developing a wind farm in the area.

The 198 ft. tall towers were installed to pinpoint the amount of wind that can be produced. This production data is used to obtain the best financing rates for the wind project.

The MET Towers are only temporary and are sitting near a site where an actual turbine will be placed. Once the turbine is up and operational, the MET Tower will be taken down and can then be used in a different project location to collect data at that site. Permanent turbines also have the capability to collect wind data.

Once a Met Tower is taken down, there is nothing left at that site. No concrete is used as they sit on the ground on a base plate and the 5 ft. long earth anchors that hold the cables in place are removed when the tower is removed.
